I started working on Quirk in 2019 for a type design elective at VCU. We were instructed to experiment with a parallel pen, and I liked the wavy lines and square serifs I was making from holding it vertically. From this I decided to make a reverse contrast, slab serif typeface. The first version of Quirk was true to the letterforms I created with the parallel pen.
